Canon re-imagines its PowerShot range with the launch of the Canon A1000 IS digital camera. Replacing the PowerShot A580, the 10 Megapixel PowerShot A1000IS delivers outstanding imaging in pocket-sized form, with designs around 25% smaller than those of their predecessors. A new Easy Mode allows even complete beginners to take great photos with easewith the Canon A1000 IS. The new Canon Powershot A1000IS offers incredibly compact dimensions, making it the most portable model to date. This new Canon A1000 IS ultra-compact approach is complemented by stylish designs in a range of colour. The smooth, tactile Canon Powershot A1000IS comes in a choice of Blue, Brown or Silver.
The Canon Powershot A1000IS digital camera incorporates a range of Canon technologies designed to make taking pictures effortless. A range of 17 different shooting modes includes a new Easy Mode, which sees all shooting settings chosen automatically by the camera - perfect for beginners prone to making unsuitable adjustments. Easy Mode also limits Playback options to simple image viewing and deletion functions.
The Canon Powershot A1000IS uses a lens shift-type Image Stabilizer (IS) system to detect and correct slight camera shakes that can cause image blur. Minute vibration gyros detect lens tilting caused by hand shake. These signals - 4,000 per second - are processed by a single-chip IS controller, which discriminates between hand shake and unintentional camera movements. Shake signals are sent to the Canon Powershot A1000IS unit, which moves one of the lens elements accordingly to deflect the light rays and cancel out the effects of shake in the Canon Powershot A1000 IS. For improved accuracy and responsiveness, the Canon Powershot A1000 IS moving lens element is supported on tiny ceramic spheres. In addition to minimizing friction, ceramic spheres avoid some of the problems that can affect metal systems, such as thermal expansion and magnetism. The Canon Powershot A1000 IS allows photographers to shoot at shutter speeds up to 3 stops slower with no perceptible increase in image blur due to camera shake.

The Canon Powershot A1000 IS features a dedicated Print menu for quick access to direct print options. Full PictBridge support means users can print directly to any PictBridge compatible printer without the need for a PC. A Print/Share button allows one-touch printing and easy uploads to Windows or Mac systems.
The Canon Powershot A1000 IS features a user interface that supports 25 languages
In addition to SD, SDHC and MMC memory cards, the Canon A1000 IS supports MMCplus and HC MMCplus card formats. The camera is supplied with a 32MB memory card. The Powershot A1000 IS is available from September 2008.
